Peggy's Cove and Redlands, CA?

October 6-7, 2012
Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada

This time around in Halifax, I didn't stay in the city, even though it would have been fun to catch another current movie.  Instead, Dustin and I headed out to this quaint little village called Peggy's Cove.  Apparently, it's kind of a big deal if you're visiting Halifax.

I thought it was pretty cool.

Let's be honest though.  This is the real reason why I go on these Canadian tours.  There's always a chance of lobster.

I believe I'm in the right place.

Unfortunately, today was more of a look-don't-eat situation.

C'mon, can we cook him please?!

Oh well, no food this time around, but that's okay.  There's always nature.

And the local music:

I couldn't resist.
After the lighthouse and the rocks, we went on a little walk around the village.

Behold: Peggy's Cove

Maybe this place was used in some movies.  I'm sure my guide told me something.

Actually, you know what I'm 100% sure of?  Canadians have this very special way of taking whatever they have, and making a very big deal of it.

Here's a church.  It's a very big deal.
I don't fault them.  It's good to have a little pride.  But let me give you an example of what I'm talking about:

Canadian Tour Guide: "Oh, and here we have a very special church that's been here forever!  We're so proud of it.  Did you know that so and so was married here over 100 years ago?!  It's true, universal health care really is the way to go!  It just doesn't make any sense why you guys don't understand that yet.  Oooh!  Let me sing you a song."

Now that I think about it, maybe I don't have a problem with how they over emphasize their landmarks.  I can't quite put my finger on the thing that was annoying me though.  Hmm...

Anyway, if I was a visual artist, I would set up a canvas and paint here.
Looking back at where we just were.
You know what...after staring at the above picture for a while.  I think they're right.  This special place is kind of a big deal.  I'm really glad I went.

The countryside on the bus ride back to Halifax from Peggy's Cove.

The very next day, we took a walking tour of Redlands, California.

Fun(?)
Wayne: "Hi...we're in Delaware."

A house.

Marcy grew up in Redlands.
Marcy is demonstrating her excitement to be in a city that looks exactly like her hometown.  If you look closely you can almost see her jump for joy.

Okay, fine!  We're back in Sydney, Nova Scotia.  And despite how boring I just made it look, there are actually some cool things there.  Like this church museum, for example:

I just left Ireland not two weeks ago...
I'd like a Micmac with cheese and a large fry please.

This right here made the whole trip worth it.

Oooh!  And later we went to a church where the cast of veggie tales was on display.

I'm putting this next picture in because I want to show you my guide's period costume dress.  Sorry, I don't know what period, but they really get into this little act.

You know how sometimes a small child comes to you with a minor accomplishment, and you feel obligated to respond positively, otherwise you risk crushing the child's feelings forever and ever amen?  I kind of felt that right here.

But all is forgiven, and do you know why?

She gave me cookies!
